Questions
Good to know
How long is the beta?
One month. Your child makes one game with that month’s challenge, and we ship the Jam Pack and a cartridge designed by your child straight to your door. When the beta ends, Game Jam Club launches for everyone, and you decide then whether to join. Nothing carries on unless you choose it.
What does it cost?
Nothing! We’re offering the beta for free so we can learn what we need to improve before we launch the real thing. Signing up doesn’t commit you to anything.
What ages is it for?
Children 7 to 12. Younger children can join with a grown-up helping them read and type.
What do we need at home?
A tablet or laptop works best. Phones work too. The builder runs in the web browser, so there’s nothing to install.
How long does a game take?
About an hour and a half, spread over as many sittings as you like. Children can stop any time and pick up where they left off. Each part takes a few minutes to build, so the Jam Pack keeps them busy while they wait.
How does the giving work?
Your child picks a local cause. Players earn GiveBounties for it by reaching the goals your child set in their game. A part of every membership goes into that month’s pool, and when the month closes, the pool is shared among the causes by the GiveBounties their games earned.
Is it safe for my child?
Children only share a first name. The game builder keeps ideas kind and friendly, and every game is a child-made game that anyone can play on the GiveBounty site.
